One of our goals for 2021 was to find ways we could use our fitness to help our community. Back in March, we performed our first service day at Madison Fields, a part of the Madison House Autism Foundation. For our next service day, we’ve decided to join forces with the Mid Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts (MORE).
If you are unfamiliar with the group, MORE is an association of mountain bikers who help organize the building and maintenance of bike and multi use trails throughout the region. Founded in 1992, MORE currently maintains over 750 miles of natural surface trails in parks throughout Maryland, Virginia, and DC.
On June 6th, we will be joining MORE for a Trail Maintenance day on the Schaeffer Farms Trail, in Seneca Creek State Park, in Germantown. The day will begin at 9am, at the Shaeffer Farms trail head. From there, we will split into teams of 2-3 people, and hike in to various locations along the trail to cut and clear brush and other obstructions. The day will end at approximately 1pm. Tools will be provided by MORE, though any volunteers who own a good set of loppers are welcome to bring them.
We know that there are many avid hikers and mountain bikers among our members, so this is a great way to give back to your community in a space where you are already reaping benefits. If you would like to join us for this service day, please fill out this form to get on the list of volunteers.
