Here is some bio information about her:
What got you into CrossFit: I’ve always been into sports and some sort of activity. I played basketball, softball, and ran track. I was considered the tomboy in school and always played sporty spice when my cousins and I would get together and sing spice girls songs. Yes, I grew up in that era. LOL! I’ll admit, I felt different growing up because I wasn’t the girly girl my cousins were.
I started CrossFit in 2014. I was in college at the time and originally worked out at Lifetime fitness. My trainer said that he was opening up a CrossFit gym so I followed him over there to try it out. I did one workout, was floored, and thought “WTF is this shit. I’m in lol.”
CrossFit has completely changed my life. It was when I did my first CrossFit workout that I felt right at home for the first time in my life. I felt like I actually belonged somewhere and I could be my true self. No one judged me for being rugged, muscular, or competitive. And little did I know, I might actually be pretty good at it.
Coaching style: I’d say my coaching style is more supportive and transformational. Personally I am a no-nonsense type of person. I speak to myself in a very literal and direct way. After all, if I’m not 100% with myself, how am I supposed to grow? If I don’t want to do something, I immediately do it to challenge myself and force myself out of comfort. I enjoy the hard things, however, I understand that most people aren’t wired that way. I try to encourage and approach people optimistically in all of my classes. If someone doesn’t believe they can, I’ll encourage them to at least “try”. If today isn’t the day, I’m a patient person, and I let them tell me when they are ready unless they are already there and need the push. My motto is you don’t know if you can or cannot until you try.
What is one thing you bring to your classes that makes them unique/special: This ties into the coaching style question. I have a growth mindset and I like to listen to motivational speeches quite often. If I can help someone build their confidence to believe that they CAN do something, that is a huge accomplishment for me. I was once told by a member that my voice was in their head at work when they were faced with something challenging and they were able to complete the task whereas previously they wouldn’t have approached it in that way. That is my true goal, to positively impact people inside and outside of the gym.
Favorite playlist/music: It depends on my mood. I love hip hop like Tupac, Dre, DMX, & Eminem. I love Latin music and beats I can dance to. I also love dance music like trance and remixes. Anything that can really get me hype and uplift my spirits I’m into.
Fitness Goals/Accomplishments: For now, it’s consistency. I have a tendency to prioritize everything else above myself including my fitness so I’m working on changing that. Then maybe I’ll start competing again.
Work/Hobbies: I like to spend time with my boys. I also love hiking, traveling, and learning new things. Spontaneity is my thing. If I’m lounging, I like to watch movies, read, or nap. First thing I think of doing when I’m free is working out, to be honest.
Fun Facts: I really enjoy bodybuilding and may want to do a wellness show one day. I know three languages, and I enjoy Korean dramas. I love baking and anything sweet. Burgers and steak are my favorite foods. My cousin, Phillip, owns CrossFit Phillipsdale in Rhode Island- it’s in the blood!
