Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

I was always a runner and I got into cycling and triathlons. After a few years of triathlon racing I was ready for a change to prevent any over-use injuries. Feeling fit, I stumbled into CrossFit and was humbled when I could barely lift a bar and couldn't jump on a 12 inch box. I started foundations, joined a gym, and haven't stopped since!

Why did you become a trainer?

I have found there is nothing more important in life than being ready and able to handle any fortune or misfortune that life throws at you. Through my years of training, coaching, and teaching, I believe that CrossFit does the best job at helping individuals prepare themselves for anything. Working as a trainer allows me to coach others, prepare for the unknown, and gain independence through strength.

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

I've been involved in fitness my entire life. First as a martial artist and later as a coach. I've always appreciated the many benefits of an athletic lifestyle.

Why did you become a trainer?

With people living increasingly sedantary lives, and children finding less exposure to sports during their developmental years, I have found myself drawn to sharing my personal experience in this field. I believe the value of physical culture transcends the walls of the gym and benefits everyone in every facet of their personal and professional lives.

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

I played baseball and other sports, when I was younger. After I got out of school, I needed something to fill the void. In my early twenties, I started to become a big gym rat. I would get up in the morning, go for a run before breakfast, then hit the gym for a couple hours before or after work. I became a training nerd, learning everything I could to improve my workouts. In late 2006, around the same time I started working in the fitness industry, one of the trainers at my gym turned me onto the old CrossFit main page. What I found was very similar to the direction I had already been moving with my own training, so it seemed a perfect fit.

Why did you become a trainer?

I would love to be able to say that being a fitness professional is something that I always wanted to do, and spent years working toward, but I really just fell into it. After spending most of my twenties in sales and restaurants, I was trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my life, because the direction I was going just didn't seem to be working for me. At that point, fitness had become the main constant in my life, so I decided to follow that. Before I knew it, I had started teaching conditioning classes at a martial arts school and got my first personal training certification. When I was introduced to CrossFit, I started to bring some of the same concepts into my classes and PT sessions. When the first CrossFit affiliate in the Baltimore area opened its doors, in 2007, I was one of their first members, and I started teaching classes for them shortly thereafter. The rest is history.

What's your favorite CrossFit movement?

I don't really have a favorite movement. Movements are just tools used to accomplish a goal. My favorite movement is that one best suited to creating the adaptation I'm trying to stimulate.

What is your favorite cheat food?

Ben and Jerry's Chubby Hubby

What's your favorite Superhero and why?

It's the easy answer, but I've always been a big Batman fan. He doesn't have any special abilities, just intellect and work ethic (a few billion dollars doesn't hurt either), and he holds his own in an arena with beings of incredible power. That's pretty awesome.
